Report: We have lost all contact with the scientific colony on the moon Mira. Their last message indicated an unidentified rock mass traveling through space at high speed and approaching the moon. Lieutenant Moore, the officer in charge of security, indicated that he was trying to get a rescue shuttle off the ground to evacuate the base. We have no confirmation on the success of this takeoff. If an asteroid hit the colony, we estimate that all facilities would likely be destroyed. If the personnel were able to evacuate the base in time, they may be on the shuttle assigned to the colony, but it is not equipped with a subspace engine and cannot travel long distances. The AI estimates the survival of the personnel inside the shuttle at less than 40 days. Should we send a rescue mission?

Supervisor Response: The AI indicates a 94% probability of colony destruction and a 47% probability of staff survival. It takes 31 days for a subspace shuttle to get to sector A 618, and we will need at least some days to prepare a team and relief materials. The cost of such a rescue mission exceeds the cost of training a new scientific team and the probability of successful rescue is too low. No rescue mission is planned. File classified.
